How to Hang a Street Banner

The typical installation of a street banner is that of a 2-sided heavy banner over a wide street. The best quality method is to stretch 2 strands of aircraft cable with turnbuckles (see below) to hold the top and bottom of the banner tight. The banner is loosely hung from the aircraft cable with Plastic Ties (see below) or bailing wire through the grommets so the banner can slide along the cable. Then, sewn-in ropes coming from the ends of the banner are pulled and tied to stretch the banner taught. The aircraft wire stays up all year round ready for the next event.

If you want to save money, you can stretch 2 ropes instead, but they will eventually rot, and not be stiff enough to stand up to high winds.

The 2-sided banners come with a heavier, double-sided fabric, reinforced edges and corners and sewn-in ropes. They cost more than two, one-sided banners, but the quality of the banner and installation becomes important if there are any significant winds.

If you wanted to jerry-rig a 2-sided banner out of two one-sided banners, you will need to tie 4 ropes to the 4 corner grommets because there are no sewn-in ropes with the one-sided   banners.

You will need as many Plastic ties as there are grommets in the banner. They are very inexpensive and available at any good hardware store or electrical supply house.

You will need 4 turnbuckles. They are used to tighten the aircraft wire so the banner will not sag or sway in the wind.
